Program Objective

Our objective is to produce graduates that are sufficiently trained to sit for a Georgia state exam and find gainful employment in the cosmetology profession.

Program Description

McDougle Technical Institute School of Cosmetology offers a blend of theoretical instruction, classroom practice and service to the public. Students are scheduled for class to obtain theory as well as practice. Clinic time is scheduled so students perform services for the public. This will allow the student to demonstrate skillful, safe services using good work habits. Students will be prepared to take a state test for a Georgia license.

Admissions

    Prospective students must comply with the following requirements to enroll:

  • Present a government issue with a valid picture ID.

  • Present a High School Diploma, GED, or proof of higher education.

  • In order to qualify for enrollment, a one-on-one appointment with one of the school admissions’ representatives is required. During the one-on-one appointment, the admission’s representative will provide advisement services to assist the student in planning and completing the program for enrollment.

  • Documentation from another country must be accompanied by the corresponding translation and evaluation by an approved agency or individual. For a listing of approved translators and evaluators visit the American Translators Association www.atanet.org or the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services www.naces.org

  • Applicants who are at least 17 but younger than 18 years of age may enroll under parental or legal guardian consent. A parent or legal guardian is required to sign the Enrollment Agreement.

Breakdown of the Cosmetology Program.

    COS101- Pre Salon -250 Hours

  • Includes the Fundamentals and Techniques of the following: Hair Cutting and Shaping; Hair Coloring and Hair Lightening; Permanent Waving and Chemical Hair Relaxers; Hairdressing; Skin Care including Facial Treatments, Make-up, and Hair Removal; Communicable Diseases, HIV and AIDS; and Nail Care including Manicures, Pedicures, and Nail Sculpting; all incorporating Safety Precautions, Sanitation and Sterilization, Chemistry and Beauty Product Chemistry, Electricity, Anatomy and Physiology, State Board of Cosmetology Laws and Rules; and Stylist Success Skills as they relate to Social Skills in the Salon Environment.
  • COS102- Student Salon Level -1,250 Hours

  • Involves performing advanced techniques and services on live models or mannequins on the Student Salon floor and time in the classroom studying the following areas: Career Readiness; Georgia State Board of Cosmetology / State Law; Salon Hair Cutting and Shaping; Salon Hair Coloring and Hair Lightening; Salon Permanent Waving and Chemical Hair Relaxers; Salon Hairdressing; Salon Skin Care; Salon Nail Care, all incorporating Sanitation and Sterilization.

Total Program Clock Hours – 1,500 Hours

Full time students attending 37.5 hours per week complete the program in 40 weeks.
